Claire Denis, 95 mins, starring: Juliette Binoche, Xavier Beauvois, Philippe Katerine, Josiane Balasko To describe Claire Denis’s Let The Sunshine In as a romantic comedy doesn’t do it justice. The film starts mid-sex. This is a space where subscribers can engage with each other and Globe staff. We first see her with an unappealing married man. But the sister is pregnant, which could either bring the siblings together or tear them apart.

Isabelle, Parisian artist, divorced mother, is looking for love, true love at last. A father and his daughter struggle to survive in deep space where they live in isolation.

Fiftysomething artist Isabelle (Binoche) is in bed with boorish married banker Vincent (an excellent Xavier Beauvois), but it doesnât seem for keeps (âYouâre charming,â he bluntly tells her, âbut my wife is extraordinaryâ).

There follows a very brief flirtation with a friend of a friend and Isabelle ends up meeting with a counselor of some kind (Gérard Depardieu) who seems to tell her that her life has simply gone as it should...most enigmatically, that she will meet a man who understands and connects with her, but he too will not be "the one".
We soon see the same conflict develop: Isabelle wants something the man cannot give, or not right away anyway. She hasn't had a lot of luck in that area, despite being beautiful, charming and successful in her career as an artist. She begins sleeping with her ex-husband but picks a fight, ending their relationship.

Denis also allows herself one moment of play. She is not having much luck. Itâs the first in a number of affairs Isabelle embarks on: there is a troubled actor (Nicolas Duvauchelle), a sensitive artist (Alex Descas), a mistaken recoupling with her ex- husband (Laurent Grévill) who freaks her out by bringing porn moves into the bedroom, and a hot guy (Paul Blain) she pulls in a bar during a blissful trademark Denis dance scene to Etta Jamesâ At Last.
